Whilst it is widely acknowledged within the criminal justice system that the police are not charging huge numbers of people who have committed criminal offences in order to keep crime numbers low , this is not the case with motoring offences.
I have recently been instructed by a motorist who sounded his horn as he drove past the police station. He is being prosecuted for driving without due care and attention. No speeding, no loss of control and no other motorists were inconvenienced. In a world where assaults are regularly being dealt with by a police caution, the public needs to be aware that 4 police officers will be required to attend a full day trial in court to decide if the motorist improperly sounded his horn.
Its comforting to know how police resources are allocated in these difficult financial times.
